Functional art. The Aspire Clip

Driven Innovation was tasked with creating a custom line of filter media clips, utilizing a specific, injection molded plastic. This clip was designed to hold the filter platters in the proper spacing. The clips are also designed to keep the filter platters properly spaced under the extreme use conditions of both pressure and heat. Driven’s design allows the clip to slightly expand under maximum force without breaking, then the clip pulls the filters back into alignment.

The clips shown in the image and video below are for two different size filter stacks. Each clip design use the same basic principle, but are optimized for each filter diameter and thickness.

Driven’s highly successful clip designs were able to survive drop tests onto concrete in excess of ten feet.

The assembly machine

Driven was then asked to invent, engineer and built one assembly machine that could install the clips onto the different size filer stacks. This assembly machine, shown here, is capable of attaching multiple filter clips to the different size and diameter filter stacks with a few quick adjustments.

The animation above shows how the assembly machine opens, the filter stack is loaded and then how the filter clip is attached. This machine is completely custom, manufactured from fabricated sheet metal, machined plastic, and sourced components.

The above image illustrates how the clip is positioned on the roller wheel. The roller wheel “rolls” the clip onto each individual platter, one clip segment at a time.
